1970 | BMW 2002 ti

Purchased in late 2000, this car proved is valor in daily service, without fault, for 1 year. No heater, no wipers, no air conditioning, and in bad need of a paint job. It was the most fun I have had in a long time.

A year to the day of purchase it moved on to a new home and is currently undergoing a cosmetic and performance makover by my fried Joey. When I last drove it it went like stink and sounded great...I am sure that it has only been improved.

Motor: Strong - clean - unknown mileage 4 cyl...they all need valve seals replaced.
Injection: Webber 38/32 downdraught

Gearbox: Slow shifting 4-sp with "broken in" syncros

Forgotten Racing Glory

G. Hill - Embassy Suites DN1 Shadow 1968 WRE Shadow F-5000 1969 LeGrand Mk1 F-5000 Assembly Room in the CanAmMex Shop
Morgan Shepard's Winston Cup car...we made it turn right our former tractor trailer, nice Goldleaf on the door huh Davey Allison's last ride, with me pointing it into the pits at Lime Rock Ron Goldleaf - some old shop...Mk12 McLaren

From June 1991 - November 1997 I was an on-again-off-again racer working in Indianapolis, starting in fiberglass/carbon fiber repair - moving into race prep for a shoestring Indy Lights team, driving FFords, rebuilding various vintage race cars (see above), etc -etc -etc.

At the height of it all I ran a shop/team that focused on restoration, race prep, and running of vintage formula cars (late 60's F-5000, 70's Formula 1, & 80's Indy Cars. We had a beautiful 3 room shop and enough fabrication tools and know-how to build you whatever you wanted.

It all ended kind of badly and I came back east...only to do it all again a few years later part time, running a bunch of historically significant Winston Cup cars and a ProTruck team. Its a hard thing to make a buck at - even harder when it isn't your full time gig. But, someday I'll do it all again, only this time with my wife and kids...and for fun.

VIDEO

Oh yeah, I'll try and find some more video but in the meantime chomp on this...its the Great Villeneuve & Arnoux battle for 2nd place at the French GP. You don't see drivers going for it like this any more - and sadly neither driver is with us any longer. Viva Arnoux - Viva Gilles!

Boy I wish I still had my:

1964 Triumph TR4
1983 Volksvagen Rabbit GTi
1987 Alfa Romeo Milano
1986 Toyota MR2 (actually, since I wrote this one off with a 12 point buck I really don't care where it is.)

Ron Goldleaf's Lotus Eleven
Ron Goldleaf's Triumph TR3B

An inexpensive endurance sports racer, a co-driver, and a stack of cash.
